My name is Alyssa, and I was born in Brandon, FL, and have lived in 5 different states. I moved to Tampa, FL in 2008 for college and graduated from the University of South Florida and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Women and Gender Studies. I am currently working full-time licensing foster homes and also in graduate school for MSW. I have been in Mama Africana since January 2013. My years in MA have been amazing. I feel like I have gained a big community of little sisters. Each year, I am reminded of the love Jesus has for us as Black girls. It has been beautiful to witness my little sisters walk in their worth as Black girls and as children of God. Mama Africana brings light to the Black girls and their families in the Tampa Bay area. I am looking forward to seeing where God takes Mama Africana in the next five years, but most importantly I am elated to see where our girls are in the next few years.
