Jesus' Filipino Accent / by Evey Sekajipo

Jesus' Filipino Accent

In case you were wondering, my time in Manila was phenomenal!!! I traveled to Asia with heavy heart due to the final verdict of the Trayvon Martin case, questioning the value of Black life in this nation. As soon as I stepped foot in Manila, the welcome, the appreciation, the affirmation and celebration of me and my other Black brothers and sisters, brought deep healing to scabbed wounds.
In brief, the people of the Philippines, reminded me that Black is beautiful, our stories are impactful, and that we have value and something special to offer the kingdom of God. I am grateful for Jesus using the voices of the Filipino church to remind me/ us of our value in such a time as this. Though restoration is slowly taking place day by day, we're ready to face the evils of this world with the strength Jesus gives us. On behalf of the women and girls of Mama Africana, I would like to say to our new Filipino brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, and friends: Salamat Po, Mahal Kita. We won't relent, we have a merciful defender.
